Improving the quality of Market Harborough's rail service
Regular users of Market Harborough station will have seen the very plush refurbishment of the waiting room on platform 2. It has been done to a high standard and the comfy sofas are quite a contrast from the cold metal benches one often finds in railway waiting rooms. This is an experiment by East Midlands Trains and if successful will be repeated elsewhere. It deserves to succeed; here's hoping it withstands the rigours of everyday use.
The 2013 AGM took place on 26th November at the Congregational Church Centre in Market Harborough. As well as electing the committee for the next year, the meeting discussed the speed improvements for the main line and the preliminary work for the intended electrification. The long-standing need to realign the track through Market Harborough and rebuild the station at platform level was also discussed. HRU will continue to press for this to be included in the significant works being done to increase the speed, capacity and accessibility of our train service.
